So here’s the deal. It is how I feel, but I never meant you to be hurt. You don’t even realize you do it, and I honestly believe you do not do it for the purpose to deceive. I think you wish you really did it, maybe, but you really don’t. No one could live up to the hype at this time. If you heard how it comes across, then maybe you would understand but some people feel that by listening to all that you say you do, that they should give up, not even attempt, because what you say you do is impossible to actually do it, in full, all the way. Not at this time. But the people who do not know, are new, are unsure, when they hear you say that you did this, and did that, and your doing all this stuff, they listen and think I could never ever do this, it’s impossible. I don’t think you realize, but I will still always care for you.

Well I went to “Summer O” this weekend with my daughter. She is a freshman at Murray State University! Could this B anymore exciting?? The whole thing is just so great for her. She is looking forward to this so much. Oh and me, well, I could not be any prouder. Two years ago I was in the middle of teenage hell. Now she is appearing to somewhat come out the other side of that. There is a maturity there in her thoughts and actions that let me know she is well on her way to “grown up” but I also love the fact that in the hotel room, I look over at the other bed and she is eating starburst!!! “I am not a child” she screams with Kool Aid all over her shirt and a Kool Aid smile on her face!

My daughter has her first car! OH THE MAGNITUDE OF THAT! The first emotion is of course ROCK ON! thrilled, happy, and wow, she is old enough to be a car owner! Then the second emotion hits, not near as fun as the first, it involves danger, and going to fast, and not being careful, and SLOW DOWN! I keep going back to the fact that we as the human race have an extremely strong will to survive, however, teenagers, and cars YIKES!

Also, she is going to graduate, my baby girl, pink dresses, baby doll, soft and sweet, is now old enough to make her own decisions and yes even to vote! I sure hope I raised her right, I tried to fill her up with all the rights and none of the wrongs, the good and not the bad! Did I fail or did I succeed? Time will tell, I am laying heavy odds that she is going to do well in life, maybe less to do with me, and more to do with who she is! She is for the most part a really lovely, kind spirited soul. A bit too much like her mother at times but well, it makes her “scrappy”!

My daughter, her “faded genes” her words, not mine, black nails, funky jewelry, dog collar bracelets, all things to put it out there that she is unique as all the rest of the teens, she is a nut! with a capital T! silly girl, so fun, also, so wary, I love this daughter of mine, crazy kid! She makes me laugh!

Have you ever known someone whom, for whatever reason you are drawn to them? Well I have this person who is in my life, way less now than before but after taking some time apart, I no longer see this person as all I thought they were. I had mentally (is there really any other way) put this person up on a pedestal. I went to this person for guidance and advice, and they always has lots of it to give out. Well upon stepping back, I have noticed that this person knows most of what they know in a book sense, not in an applied sense, AND the biggest part of all, this person touts all of this knowledge to many around them, and people are in awe of the knowledge, and the wowness of it all, but in reality, this person is a website, just information, tons and tons of it. Almost every bit of it unapplied, unused, and worst of all the appearance is made for the world around, as if this person ACTUALLY does and says all that they tout, and unfortunately it makes those around feel less able, less capable, and not living up to the standard. All of this in a world that where we are all desperately needing to do the right thing, struggling to be perfect, we have someone who could do such good, but instead they choose to deceive and mislead, not outright lie, just exaggerate the truth so much as to make someone who has not figured it out, feel unable! What a shame!

So pretty much all my life I have LOVED snow! I remember being young and snow would be forcast and all of the adults would be so negative, and I remember thinking that they were insane! What could be more fun than a day out of school, playing outside all day, and drinking homemade hot chocolate (the only time we got the good stuff was a snow day). Well guess what, I now understand their agony! See, it’s not so much about the snow, as it is about the expectation of the children (my spouse is included in the children catagory for this). They want YOU to go out in the COLD, snowy snow! IN IT, ON IT, UNDER IT, ATOP OF IT and they mean business. For me, a big window, a hot cup of coffee, nice soft pajamas, warm robe, and I am good! That is a perfect snow day. For my son to have a perfect snow day, I need to be somehow involved. I need to be the target for his snowballs, the trail maker for the trails game, I need to see it, and feel it, and well I DON’T WANNA!

We took our son to a huge hill in a nice park with 500 other people, first time down the hill he sits and rides, second time down he is on his knees, third time down he stands up, leans back and hoots and whoo hooos all the way down. Good Grief. I on the other hand have zero desire to go down, get my pants wet, then climb back up the hill and have a small heart attack, I don’t know just doesn’t seem to appeal to me! My spouse has gone down a billion times with the boy, each trip up a bit slower, little more effort to make it to the top each trip, finally he says “this has to be the last time” off they go, to make it back up the hill the final trip is 2 hours 47 minutes, but “gosh it was so fun” WHAT EVER!

But being the awsome mom that I am, I made snow paint! and now I think I am getting sick! I am so not a fan of snow, or cold, or chilly, or nippy, or brrrrrrrr.

So this weekend, my baby, (ok 7 year old) competed for the first time in a TaeKwonDo event! We had to get up at the crack of dawn, to get to the venue at half past the crack of dawn, get checked in 4 hours before we had to do anything, and prepare ourselves for a day of………………waiting, and waiting! Seriously, I should get the gold metal in the 40 year old waiting catagory! I waited with my back in horrible pain, but could not participate in the taking of pain killing drugs because I had to be a bored, wait no……board holder. Yes Yes, I am sure it was the second kind, the second one involved wood right??? I was involved in the one where wood was held! and to be honest, I was mostly the first one, and I didn’t even make an effort to hide it.

So the moment finally arrives, we go down to the board holding/breaking area, my son bows to the judges, then pow pow pow, three boards broken, another bow, and he is done. WHEWWW so then, I look at the judges for the scores, one judge did not give my son a fair score, that little asswipe! let him get up and break the board, anyway, whatever! So we are not sure if my son is in first or second place, 2 boys got the exact same score, and the exact same letter score, so we have to wait until we get up to the podium. They call out the boys names and GUESS WHAT, ALEX CAME IN 1ST PLACE, THE GOLD MEDAL, the highest spot on the podium, AND THE CROWD GOES WILD, ok just me but whatever, so out of 6 in his category, he was the ULTIMATE board breaker! Oh an FYI on that asswipe judge, he won best kickass black belt there or some stupid category, he might be pretty decent, again whatever!

So after some more waiting, we go on to our final event, which is sparring, we didn’t even place! I think the judge didn’t like us, probably had it in for us cause we are so cool, he didn’t want the cool kid to win ALL the awards, or maybe Alex just didn’t do very well, but it was probably the first thing.

Have you ever noticed how everything and everyone in our lives tend to have labels?? We put them on ourselves, others put them on us, but do they truly define us? How many labels can we each have, who gives us the right label? Can we change our label with a razor and some goo gone?

Right now I am struggling with a couple of my labels, I don’t like them in fact, most likely I will lose sleep over them, and then I will need to add a label, (bad sleeper) but I have had that label for a long time, anyway, labels that I don’t like are currently defining me, I am not Dawn blah blah. I am Dawn yuck yuck!! How do I turn it around before the label drags me down?

And just out of curiosity sake, how do some people always embrace their beautiful labels, like good hair, nice teeth, charitable, Godly, inspirational? And others just wholly embrace the negative ones like, grouchy, moody, dry skin, cold natured?

I want to be the writer of my labels, and cast out the ones I don’t want, or at least not buy into them so heavily, some of my things are just that, they are my make-up yes, but the do not define who I am. I would guess that we each have about a hundred yellow post it note size labels on us, some self given, others Dr. given, spouses, inlaws, siblings.

I think my new label should be fushia, and it will just say GOOD ENOUGH FOR ME! and just for some extra flair, I might add sparkle!

So I was sitting in church a couple of Sundays ago, ………wait, yes, Eric and I may have finally found the church we have been looking for, I know, I know, it will never be like that first time, that first church that really rocked my spiritual heart, but Alex REALLY wanted us to find a church, maybe something is up with that (he loves being read his “read and learn” bible stories ( ok so we all really like that) anyway, I digress. So I was sitting there doing a little praying during communion when out of no where a thought hit me, “He GAVE his ONLY Son” ” He GAVE his ONLY Son” whoa! I guess I had never wrapped my brain around that sentence. I will hardly let someone borrow my son, much less GIVE, WOW just the sheer magnitude of that! You know they say it a lot, look at John 3:16 the one they hang over the rails at the ball games and the like. How did I miss it, the meaning… maybe it’s like when you say something like cracker over and over and over, the word loses all meaning! In my Christian and mommy heart, this was significant!

ok, so I am a homeschool mom, in a previous post I talked about my son growing up and me holding on, well I guess he is still growing and I am still holding, now just “with even more teachy goodness”

For reasons above and beyond my complete lack of faith in my “reside school district” I think homeschooling just rocks my casbah so to speak! I am just learning so much, stuff that I never knew, and trust me, when being taught by a 7 year old boy, we learn some COOL stuff. For instance, I never knew the average weight of 1 elephants poop, now… Oh I SO know that!

When we first started out, I was like “oh what are people gonna think, I am gonna be a big ol, floral print wearing jumper dress hair in a bun, ilky, oh so uncool FREAKKKK!

Well let me tell you, I just didn’t know how nice a floral jumper dress could be, and wow the ease of a bun,…………just kidding………..however a nice hair clip/clamp/claw type thing is a great value in any womans hair thingy drawer, ok well maybe not mine anymore since the “Valentines night incident of 08″ but that is for a different post entirely!!!

I realize homeschooling is NOT for everyone, hehe can you imagine, yowza! but for me and mine, it works great, the pride I feel, I TAUGHT ANOTHER HUMAN TO READ!!!! yeah top that!!! the absolute greatest thing I have done so far!

I so wish I had homeschooled my daughter, but she has turned out so smart and beautiful, hard to believe college in just a couple of months! And guess what, I really like the person she is becoming!

As far as potty training boys goes, I found with my son, at about 2 years old we started the Pampers training pants, Pull ups and the like, we used them for mainly at home where a bathroom was close by, but when he hit 2 and a half, we switch to plain underwear, and after wetting them for a couple of days, he quickly got the idea that wet underpants was “yuck-a-doodle” and he potty trained really quickly once we started that. He is turning 3 at the end of this month and still wears Pull ups at night to sleep in.
